First Frost

This morning I saw my breath as a steped outside. Our first frost.. but little damage seems to have been done. My flowers are still looking good.

Today Nikki and David moved into their new home. I am so happy and excited for them.

Next Year

- milk weed– would love to attract Monarch butterflies

-fantastic tomatoes– this years early girls were nice.. but too small.

Pulling Up the Garden

After a week of unseasonably cold and grey days, the sun has returned. I spent much of the afternoon pulling up my vegetable garden. All that remain for another day, are my beets.

So Far No Frost

The weather this week has been unseasonably cool. The days have been dreary and grey. The low temps have been close to 0.. but so far we have not had any frost. Yesterday I pulled all my red tomatoes but left the green ones on the vine. Hopefully Jack Frost will stay away at least for another few weeks.

Lots of red peppers this year. Must keep an ear to the weather forecast. A frost would have them turn to mush.

I did the seed thing this year and am very pleased with my crop of little green onions.

In the Red

red pepper

I am actually having some of my green bell peppers turn red this year. This doesn’t happen every year as our growing season is just too darn short. I know peppers like to be hot.. maybe the extreme heat we had in July gave them that extra boost.. cause I have a few beauties that are turning a lovely shade of red. The more red they are.. the sweeter they are.

My tomatoes are also turning red.. but still have many that are green.

post note: bought a suet cake, “Peanut Butter n’ Jelly” for the bird feeder.

geranium

This year.. this planter is my favourite. I love the red, I love the green.

We have had a lot of heat this summer. Of all my bedding plants.. the geraniums seem to be faring the best.

This evening we had a surprise thunder storm with pea size hail. Checked the garden afterwards.. no apparent damage. :-)

New Bird Feeder

new bird feeder

Bought a new bird feeder to replace the old one in the back yard.

The new one is called the Eco Tough Ranchette Retreat. Apparently it is made from recycled milk jugs and is guaranteed not to fade, crack or rot. The tray is a metal screened sheet that will be very easy to clean. Bought it from Wild Birds Unlimited.

Pulled two full size peppers from the garden for supper. As I went to enter the garden a little bunny high tailed it through the cucumber patch. :-)

Many tomatoes are now red. Can’t really remember (wish I had written it down) but I think I planted “better girl” tomatoes this year. I find them nicely round.. but too small in size. Non the less.. they are delicious picked straight from the vine.
